Aram Nerguizian

Chief Executive Officer & Co-Founder

Aram Nerguizian is the Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder of The Mortons Group. He provides strategic advice and insight to the private sector, governments, non-governmental and international organizations on security sector, governance, socio-economic and policy challenges across the Middle East and North Africa (MENA).

Mr, Nerguizian is frequently consulted by governments and the private sector, appears regularly on CNN, BBC News, CBS News, VOA and PBS, and has been quoted in the New York Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, Foreign Policy, the Financial Times, the Associated Press, and other news outlets on security issues in the Middle East and North Africa.

Nerguizian is Senior Advisor to the Program on Civil-Military Relations in Arab States (CMRAS) at the Carnegie Middle East Center, where his work focuses on the Lebanese security sector, long-term force transformation in the Levant, and efforts to develop national security institutions in post-conflict and divided societies.

For more than a decade, Mr. Nerguizian served as a Senior Fellow with the Burke Chair in Strategy at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), covering security, public sector reform, governance, state-building and institutional development as the Center's principal subject matter and public policy expert on the Levant. He is also a leading authority on the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) and advises civil-military leadership and bilateral and multilateral efforts to sustain and develop national security institutions in post-conflict and divided societies.

As a Senior Associate with the Burke Chair in Strategy at CSIS, Mr. Nerguizian continues to provide expert policy advice and insight on the Levant and the broader MENA region. Mr. Nerguizian also currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors of Emirates Lebanon Bank, where he focuses on best practices in anti-money laundering (AML), counter-terrorism financing (CTF), audit and corporate social responsibility (CSR).

Nerguizian is the author of numerous publications, including most recently: The Lebanese Armed Forces and Hezbollah: Military Dualism in Post-War Lebanon (2018), Hezbollah The Lebanese Armed Forces, Hezbollah, and Military Legitimacy (2017), The Military Balance in a Shattered Levant (2015), Between Sectarianism and Military Development: The Paradox of the Lebanese Armed Forces (2015), The Military Balance in a Shattered Levant (2015), The Struggle for the Levant: Geopolitical Battles and the Quest for Stability (2014), and U.S-Iranian Competition in the Levant (2013). His books on Israeli-Syrian military balance and force developments in the Maghreb appeared in 2008 and 2009.

Nerguizian received his M.A. in international affairs from George Washington University’s Elliott School of International Affairs, his B.A. in political science from Concordia University in Montreal and his Global Executive M.B.A. (GEMBA) from Georgetown University and ESADE Business School. He has also received security assistance training from the Defense Institute of Security Cooperation Studies (DISCS).
